Year 8 News
Very busy term so far at Tahuna!
Our Year 8 classes have been particularly busy, with many having now been to Camp Columbia and had an absolutely amazing time. This accounts for over 200 students who have already experienced the camp, and we still have two more classes looking forward to their turn in Week 4. A massive thanks must go to all our dedicated parent volunteers who provided invaluable support on camp – without you, we simply could not have offered our students such a fantastic and memorable experience.
Whilst expertly juggling the logistics of camp, our Year 8s have also been fully immersed in their drama unit. They've been busy learning about the traditions of pantomimes, developing their script writing skills, and culminating in the exciting process of producing and rehearsing their own performances.
As part of this project, some classes have already had the pleasure of visiting their Year 1 and 2 contributing schools, performing excerpts or discussing their work. Others are participating in connecting via Zoom calls. The younger students are eagerly anticipating being treated to a full pantomime performance that has been entirely written, produced, and performed by our talented Year 8 students. It's a wonderful way for our students to develop confidence and connect with the wider school community.
Beyond the Year 8 focus, the whole school was recently treated to an inspiring session with guest speaker Cam Kalkoen. He shared powerful insights about facing challenges, building resilience, and developing leadership qualities. We felt so fortunate to have him spend the day with us, and his message truly resonated with both students and staff.
On the sports front, winter codes are now well underway, and it's fantastic to see so many students enthusiastically participating. We have numerous sports teams proudly representing Tahuna every week across a wide range of codes, including basketball, netball, hockey, football, and kiwi tag, just to name a few. Their commitment and sportsmanship are commendable.
Our students have certainly packed a huge amount into the start of the term already, demonstrating enthusiasm and dedication in all areas. And the busyness doesn't stop here – we still have so much more exciting learning, events, and opportunities to come!
Ngā mihi
