19A's Museum and University trip!

By Riley Horne

It was the day of the field trip and everyone was hyped up! We hopped on the bus at approximately 8:55. When we arrived at the museum everyone was very exuberant. We got inside and went through a quick safety briefing and then we were off into Tahura.

First of all we got into groups and then we went off to explore. First of all my group went to a challenge when you had to channel the water to protect Ashburton from a flood. We did more activities much the same before and we also went to the butterflies. We saw heaps of butterflies in every possible colour. Everyone enjoyed the butterflies apart from Lukas who thought they were monsters.

We finished up at the museum and went to the university for morning tea before we had our physics session. We went into the room and there were lots of crafting objects on the tables. We had to figure out how to turn on the lightbulb and how to change the light colour. Towards the end of our session we were asked to get into groups. One group at a time, would stand on stools and hold hands. The kid at the end would hold a metal dish with a belt running through it witch would make static electricity. At the start everyone was very apprehensive because they thought they would get shocked. The first time, Mr Min was videoing the kids which at the time, had hair like a lions main. The blast of electricity jumped the kids and zapped Mr Mins phone and then jumped back zapping all the kids.

We finished up and went to have lunch. For our last rotation, we went and sat down at these big wooden tables filled with pipe cleaners and straws. It was a competition to see who could build the biggest tower out of the construction pieces based in front of us and then balance a golf ball on the top. Mr Min’s team won and then we had to pack up and go. We got back on the bus and went back to school to finish up the amazing trip. It was so much fun!!
