Tahuna represents at the Dunedin Schools Triathlon
By Abi Crowley
A triathlon consists of 3 events: running (2.5km), biking (6km) and swimming (150m). The individual racers complete all of those by themself and a team has one person doing each event. Tahuna entered 7 teams and 1 individual. We came out with a stunning 1st ( year 8 girls), 3rd (year 7 girls), 2nd (year 7 boys) 3rd (year 7 boys and everyone else coming in the top ten for their race category. What a bunch of super star athletes!
The day started a bit foggy but the sun fought its way through the clouds and by the time our races had begun it was sunny. The individual year 7s started first, (that was Ciara) with the year 7 teams started shortly after. Then it was the year 8’s turn.
The run took place around the local rugby field and had a nasty wee gravel hill that the runners had to traverse up and down. Then it was a couple of laps around the block before they got to the transition where the bike leg began. The cycle had some steep hills and a bit of off-roading and took the cyclists around to the back of the Port then they returned to the transition area. The final leg was the swim which was 5 lengths of the local Port Chalmers pool Frizell.
We are all very proud of all the Tahuna triathletes. They all competed with great sportsmanship and positive attitude. A huge thanks to Mr Scoles and all of the parents who helped out on the day with transport to and from. They wouldn’t have made it without their help!
A special kia ora to Lauren Saker for the awesome pics!
