Year 8 news
An amazing first term at Tahuna for our Year 8 students.
As term 1 draws to an end I would like to say a huge thanks to all those parents who provided support for our school camps. A total of 9 classrooms comprising of over 250 students attended camps this year at Waiora Scout Camp and Warrington. For the most part we were very fortunate with the weather allowing all of our activities to take place.
Students were in involved in tramping, sleeping in tents, mountain biking, archery, air rifles, frisbee golf, search and rescue, bivvy making and even cooked some of their own gourmet camp meals.
Tahuna summer sports was also popular for our students with Futsal, Touch, Volleyball and Waterpolo on offer. These summer sports will be offer again in term 4 and will be a great way to finish the year so if you didn't get a chance to join a team in term 1 jump into a sport for term 2.
Term 2 and 3 sees more winter sports options available like Basketball, Netball, Rugby (sevens tournament late in term 3), Hockey, Football and Badminton. All teams have a mixture of competitive and social grades. Don't miss out as this is your final year at to be part of one of our Tahuna teams!!!
In the classroom students have been focusing on our reflections of camps, writing and reading about biographies, statistics units for maths and our relationships and sexuality education (RSE). Students have also been busy within our technology areas creating and designing artworks, gourmet dishes, hard materials and E-tech projects.
As you can see your students have been busy!!
Term 2 will be just as busy with a new PBL project taking shape as we speak, Year 8 swimming as well as all of the options and more mentioned above.
Have a wonderful break and I look forward to seeing you all in term 2.
Ngā mihi
