Tahuna Specialist Areas

A busy time at the end of term in specialist classes as students finish off their creations, projects, art works and food products! Check out the amazing student work in the great photos below.

Art: Within Visual Art the student's have been creating art work based on and getting inspiration from Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, Ake Ake Ake a forever language. Take a look at the creative work inspired from researching a Central Otago Artist and then the student's own interpretation added.

E-Tech: Another round of students are finishing their time in E tech this week with lots of interesting projects receiving there finishing touches.

Students have made Games - Snakes and ladders, Sports ball displays, A Zoo and many more.

The 3D printers have been busy and students are getting better at making sure the right file is sent to the right place with the right File name details!

A group of year 7 students are designing a new challenge for future Epro8 competitions (last year a group from Tahuna had their new challenge accepted and won a prize.)

So the Epro8 organisers have again invited Tahuna students to see if they can come up with another new challenge for 2025, but we can't tell you any more as this challenge (if accepted) will remain under wraps until next years round of Epro8 competitions.

Food Tech: Year 7 students enjoyed the task of planning their own final products in groups. This helps develop time management, co-operative and planning skills. Year 8 students have been working on designing 'Fakeaway' products and then completing costing to see the price difference between buying takeaways and making their own. Lots of burgers, butter chicken, sweet and sour, popcorn chicken and tacos.

Hard Materials: Another awesome effort from our students in Hard Materials this term!! All students have successfully reached the end of this rotation and the standard of the projects heading out the door from the workshop speak for themselves. All students have had a thorough chance to push their skills to the max and their outcomes have reflected this. Look at Zac's stand he created, looks professional! Well done to the elective team who almost all completed their pinball projects which tested not only their skills in the workshop but opened their eyes to the importance of reusing materials and sustainability.
