ODT Extra! Tāpiri Spelling Bee 2022

After a few weeks of trials and training the big day arrived!

Tahuna was lucky enough to be represented by three awesome teams with very talented spellers.

We headed to the Science Lab to compete in the online quiz. Nerves were high, but so was the excitement.

The words were tough, but nothing we couldn't handle and all three teams felt confident with their own performance.

We all met again later in the day for a Zoom where we found out that our first team (consisting of Chi Smithies, Isla Ludgate and Gregor Wattscame) came first equal with 5 other classes. There was a tie-break to organise an outright winner, but unfortunately this was not communicated effectively and we were not given enough time.

It was disappointing to not be able to compete in the tie-break, but coming first equal out of 452 classes all around Aotearoa is an incredible achievement!

Our other two teams each performed extremely well, coming 42nd and 127th respectively.

Well done teams! We are all so proud of you!
