Chinese Immersion Day
Monday 12th September saw Tahuna host our very first Chinese Immersion Day.
On Monday the 12th September 125 students from across the Otakou Cluster, came together at Tahuna to celebrate the beginning of Chinese Language Week. We begun the day with a performance by a local lion dancing group. The students then took part in 6 different activities - traditional music, dance, games, Kung Fu, arts and crafts and eating delicious dumplings! Students learned how to use chopsticks to eat their dumplings, and how to make a dipping sauce. We had a food truck on site selling delicious Chinese steamed pork buns which many staff and students enjoyed at lunchtime. We are grateful for the support we have had from the Asia New Zealand Foundation who helped to make this day possible by providing advice, funding and resources for students 'goodie bags'. We would also like to thank the Confucius Institute for enabling us to use so many of their wonderful Mandarin Language Assistants, the Dunedin Chinese Gardens for the many resources they gave us to use, the Otago Chinese Association for their Lion Dancing Group, the Dunedin Chinese/Art Instrument group for their musical talent and expertise and CoolAz Events Catering for the steamed pork buns. We hope to hold this event again next year and involved even more students from across the cluster.
